“Peace is its own reward.” – Mahatma Gandhi
On days like today, we remember a difficult time. We’re challenged by more recent troubles across our nation and world.
But for me, I also remember how 9-11 changed my life. A young son, a fledgling career in publishing, in-laws in Manhattan, a friend working in a high-rise near the Twin Towers, an uncle in the Pentagon, a sister-in-law on a plain flying from Boston to the West Coast. A cousin, a NYC Sheriff, working at Ground Zero… EVERYTHING I’d taken for granted up to that moment, all that was most dear to me, would never again feel less than miraculous.
Peace, freedom, are precious gifts.
Worth fighting and dying for; worth believing in, no matter the disasters and challenges and differences we face.
My stories, my images, will forever share this. That is my vow.
May all who’ve fought and suffered find their peace.
May each of us live free, live our best life, as if today were our last chance to share all that is best within us.
