“…just keep on flowing.” ~ Bruce Lee
Just a park along the way. And fall leaves, side-lit by the sun. And water flowing. moving, shifting. And me—thrilled to be seeing this lovely pocket, and the chance to share it with another photographer who hadn’t yet shot water this way.
We were shooting in North Carolina in the fall. Mostly historic barns bursting to life amidst a riot autumn color. But we had to eat, and why not a picnic?! By the water, beneath these amazing trees.
The blues and yellows. The diagonals of dark line, for texture and flow. The magic of dreaming what it could be if I only had a spot where all that glorious gold and blue was reflecting in moving water…
When I found a pocket in the quickly moving river beside us, I couldn’t help myself. The instinct to capture it all was too strong.
We were a group of photographers, so it was a good bet that we’d all be grabbing our gear at some point. But I was the only one with my face nearly in the water, me lying kneeling and lying on my side and then on my stomach. Until one of my new friends flowed on over and asked what I was doing.
What a pleasure to show her my in-camera images. What a thrill to demonstrate the process and help her grab some golden water of her own.
A perfect moment of sharing beauty and joy and appreciation for simple miracles.
It’s a memory I won’t soon forget!
